The Challenge: Field Access for Borehole Drilling
A drilling contractor required safe and durable access across a working field to carry out borehole testing and ground investigations. The rural setting, combined with active farmland and soft, uneven terrain, posed a challenge in terms of vehicle access and surface protection.
The work needed to be completed efficiently without damaging the grassland or compromising the surrounding environment. With multiple drill locations to reach and operate from, the client needed a temporary road and stable working pads that could be quickly deployed and easily relocated.

To meet these demands, GroundGuards supplied UltraTrack Pro, a heavy-duty composite mat system designed to support both access routes and drilling operations. Each mat weighs approximately 295kg and can be laid with standard machinery, making it ideal for faster installation across large or remote sites.
UltraTrack Pro mats were laid to form a continuous haul route from the site entrance, weaving through fields to reach key drill points. At each location, wider pad areas were built using the same system to create level, supportive surfaces for equipment to operate safely.
The mats’ robust overlapping connection system ensured a stable surface throughout, while their high load-bearing capacity meant they easily handled the movement of plant, drilling rigs, and support vehicles.
Results & Outcome: A Protected Field and Productive Site
With UltraTrack Pro in place, the team had secure access to all required locations, allowing borehole works to proceed without delay. The mats provided a firm platform throughout the works, and the underlying ground was preserved from rutting and damage.
Once testing was complete, the mats were lifted and the field left intact and ready for continued use. The customer was pleased with the speed of deployment and the effectiveness of the solution across multiple points of activity.
