As part of the first phase of the A47 dualling project in Norfolk, National Highways needed dependable access routes and a secure base for heavy plant. GroundGuards supplied TuffTrak, a heavy-duty ground protection mat designed for high-traffic areas and heavy loads. Its full-size 3m x 2.5m profile and overlapping flange connection system created a robust surface that locked together securely, preventing slippage and reducing mud ingress between mats.
The mats were laid to form both a large, stable compound and an extended access road across the site. Despite the soft and churned ground beneath, TuffTrak provided a solid platform capable of supporting trucks, site vehicles, and machinery throughout the build phase.

The TuffTrak system performed exactly as required, giving the project team a reliable, high-strength surface across varied terrain. The access road kept site traffic moving safely in and out of the works, and the compound area remained stable under constant use.
