The Challenge: Soft Ground and Heavy Equipment

During the wet winter months, an infrastructure management consultancy required access for a 20 tonne drilling rig and light commercial vehicles at Hersham Football Club in Weybridge, England. The work needed to be carried out directly across the football pitch, which presented a real risk of ground damage.

With soft, saturated turf and limited access points, the team faced a familiar but delicate challenge. They needed to get heavy plant to the investigation site without tearing up the surface or impacting club operations.

The GroundGuards Solution: MultiTrack Twin Trackway

GroundGuards proposed a temporary twin trackway constructed using MultiTrack mats, extending across the pitch to allow safe passage of vehicles.

To support turning movements and occasional parking, a 15 square metre pad area was also constructed using the same mats.

MultiTrack was the ideal choice for this job. Each mat is lightweight at only 39kg, making it easy to handle by hand without lifting equipment. Despite their low weight, they are capable of withstanding loads of up to 120 tonnes, providing safe and reliable access even for the 20 tonne rig.

Installation was completed quickly and with minimal disruption to the site. The mats’ interlocking design ensured a stable surface with strong grip and no risk of movement during vehicle use.

Thanks to the MultiTrack system, the drilling team were able to carry out their work efficiently and without damaging the football pitch.

The surface beneath the mats remained intact and the club experienced no interruptions to regular activity. The consultancy was pleased with the tidy, professional finish and the ease with which their vehicles could access the site.
