The Challenge: Working in a High Traffic High Profile Venue
In Douglas on the Isle of Man, preparations were underway for the world-famous TT Races. The project involved constructing the main grandstand, an essential hub for thousands of spectators during race week. To complete the works, construction vehicles needed access to the site, but the surrounding parkland presented a challenge. Any ground damage would have detracted from the site’s appearance during the event and left the organisers with costly remediation.
Alongside vehicle access, the organisers also required safe pedestrian walkways and additional parking facilities to handle the large number of event goers.

Each MaxiTrack mat measures 2.4 metres by 1.2 metres, weighing only 40kg, making them easy to install by hand without the need for lifting equipment. Their SmartGrip tread provided excellent traction, helping to prevent slips and trips for pedestrians while ensuring stable vehicle movement. The mats also feature overlapping flange joints that lock together to suppress mud and protect the turf from rutting.
Working closely with a local distributor, GroundGuards coordinated the delivery and full installation of the mats on site. The system was used to create temporary roads for site vehicles, safe walkways for pedestrians, and stable parking areas throughout the event site.

The MaxiTrack system delivered excellent results. The mats provided robust protection for the grass beneath, with no damage reported once the works were completed. Installation was completed quickly and with minimal disruption, allowing the grandstand project to stay on schedule.
